In most countries of the world, children and teenagers
help around the house. Parents and educators say that it teaches them responsibility. Also, kids who help at home learn important things that will be useful when they grow up.
Mike (13), from Wigan in England says, "I always
clean my own room, of course. I also mow the lawn, and I set the table before we eat. I sometimes help in the kitchen, and hoovering on Sundays, when we clean the house, is my job. Hanging out with my mates is more fun, but it's OK. It makes me feel useful.
Maria (12) lives in Dortmund, Germany. She says, "Helping at home is fine. Sometimes it's not nice, like when the sun is shining and you want to go to the swimming pool but you
do your chores first. I always clean the bathrooms on Wednesdays and Fridays, and on Sundays I
clean the dust. My little sister
water the plants every other day. It's a lot of work, but somebody
do it and my parents
to work a lot to earn enough money."
Jean-Pierre (14) from Toulon, France,
do much at home. "I only
walk the dog and tidy my room. My dad doesn't work outside the house, so he does everything at home. He says that I
study hard to get good marks, and that's what I do."
